Eleven inch Hammer Forged Cleaver by “Woody”. The WoodyBrand creates an occasional small batch of “BA” Cleavers usually around the holiday season. It seems that in every exclusive run there’s one that stands out above the rest. This offering represents one of those special versions that seem to magically appear. The magic with this one began in the early 1950s when an unfortunate house fire took out a country cabin in the Pumkintown region of South Carolina ,with nothing left standing but a few odd items on the back enclosed porch. One of the items Was a 19th century quilt rack made from incredible burl oak. The rack was scorched around the edges but still totally intact.  Woody found the heirloom rack and learned of its story during the spring of ‘97 at a Rabun Gap , Georgia flea market and was able to barter one of his hand made knives for the rack and a few sundry items.  It gathered dust in the Woody shop until recently before Woody decided to process the rack into handle material.  Looking closely you’ll be an able to notice evidence of charring from the disastrous fire around the upper spine of this unique “BA” Cleaver.  The Oak Burl is very unique in character even without the historical embodiment of the “Burnt Rack” story.   

The 1095 carbon steel hammer forged blade is of .0250” gauge.  Woody guarantees it will hold a great edge and serve you and your heirs for a long, long time.  A rare piece indeed.   The top grain leather head adjunct is a piece of craftsman’s art in its own right.  It was custom made in the world famous Lonnie Hyatt shop , Salem, South Carolina.   $369.95 including Certificate of authenticity and shipping.
